Happy Earth Day

Reflections on life, work and play on this glorious day.

Today is a new day, a wonderful day, Earth Day, and as Maya Angelou reminds, one we have never seen before. This lifted my spirits today, to reflect on the gift of another day and even the chance for the planet to catch her breathe while we shelter in place and work from home. Whenever things do open up again, I for one don’t want to return to “business as usual.”  I’m proud to be working with companies like aloka, an Atlanta-based company committed to seeking potential in existing resources to offer beautiful, well-designed products for the interiors trade. Increasingly, this sensitivity to product and  appreciation for well-made things that hold up over generations is where my focus will turn. As we are all learning, creativity and a new definition of beauty comes when there is not an abundance or resources.

Additionally, if you haven’t taken a virtual tour of the “Boro Textiles: Sustainable Aesthetics” exhibit over at The Japanese Society website, I highly recommend it. The commentary from the curators and interviews with designers is just what I needed today.
