Prepare to Pitch Holiday Gift Guides

You heard us correctly. July and August are the months where editors are hunting and gathering new products to feature in their December issues. But your prep for creating a pitch strategy begins NOW!

Target the right editors.

Market editors and assistant editors are the correct editors to pitch your product. We’ve made
it easy to find the market editors to all of your favorite magazines, including their email address
and a social media contact, in our exclusive Media List ($150). This is an essential, time-saving
tool for small businesses looking to pitch market editors at home, design, fashion, food, and
travel national publications.

Pitch one editor at a time.

Take it from every editor we’ve ever spoken to. Mass emails are a major turnoff and make it
very easy to delete your pitch.

Include images that pop!

Always include an image or two of the products you are pitching in the body of the email.
Good product photography should be well lit and silhouetted (against a white backdrop
with no shadows) and low resolution (but include a link to high resolution images).

Don’t forget the important deets.

Keep the pitch short. Editors need to know the day/month a new product will be available,
the price and where to purchase and a one or two sentence description. The shorter, the
better.

Follow up your pitch.

Check in with the editor a week to ten days after your initial outreach and do so in the same
email that you pitched so the information remains in one thread.
